Global Registration Services

A highly technical website, simplified

You know those “do not remove under penalty of law” tags that are on pillows and beds and whatnot? Turns out the world of compliance for stuffed articles is serious business — and nobody is more serious about getting it right than Global Registration Services (GRS).

Kicks came on board to build a cleaner, mobile-friendly website to help GRS’s clients cut through the red tape and make compliance a breeze.

The GRS glow-up

Believe it or not, the compliance industry for pillows and sofas and stuff isn’t exactly known for being sexy — so it’s no wonder that websites across the industry don’t tend to draw “hubba hubba”s or “va-va-voom”s.

As we shook the dust off of GRS’s web content, we decided to give their site a complete design makeover, too.

Foundationally, we built the new site from the ground up to be mobile-first. Gone are the days of drop-down menus hidden within drop-down menus. Today all of the relevant pages are neatly organized into the classic hamburger menu for easy navigation.

The new site makes it much easier to find the information you need, and it’s much easier on the eyes, too. Just take a look at the before and after screenshots above and we’re sure you’ll get all hot and bothered.

Say awooga for web design

Now you’re speaking my language

GRS’s business is super complex. Not only are they dealing with highly regulated and incredibly specific information that has legal implications for their clients — they’re also dealing with audiences all over the world and at every level from manufacturers overseas to importers and retailers here in the U.S.

Needless to say, clarity and ease of reading are critical for GRS’s clients, whether they need to know all the nitty gritty details or are just looking to smash that “help me do this” button. One of the largest goals of Kicks’s partnership with GRS was to completely overhaul their website’s copy for voice, tone and succinctness.

The new GRS site makes highly technical compliance information digestible and understandable to all of their audiences. And best of all, it sounds way less robotic than their competitors. It just goes to show that even complicated subject matter doesn’t have to leave your reader scratching their head.

Discontent with your content?

Content & more content

Making a $5,000+ purchase online isn’t always the easiest sell. Liberty & 33rd’s high-quality photography gives shoppers a great view of pieces they have their eye on, but the more information they can get the better — especially for those with tight budgets who might otherwise turn to cheaper options like Crate & Barrel.

Content marketing was a natural fit to ease those big-ticket purchases. Kicks penned blogs that highlight the careers and creative processes of prolific furniture designers, and tied them to their respective pieces in Liberty & 33rd’s catalog. Now would-be customers can do their research right on liberty33rd.com and feel more informed about hitting the “add to cart” button.

Better UX for the GRS platform

Working within the framework of function that existed in the GRS platform, we designed a cleaner, more functional user experience to drive logical action and fix confusion brought on by previous development. With a simple sidebar menu, users can now navigate to pillar pages of the portal — and using the linear on page menu, they can jump to sections that require action and attention.

Being able to take quick, decisive action is often the difference between remaining compliant or facing fines. We developed a dashboard that makes a user’s to-dos clear, so they’re always up to date on line items to address, notifications and their compliance status.

During the app design exploration, GRS identified some functionality that would really change the game for the compliance landscape. Each state has different requirements for different products, and no website in the industry made those regulations clear.

Let’s make things physical

“Digital” is right in our name, but Kicks has got skills in the real world, too. GRS was gearing up to attend a handful of high-profile industry events, and needed some physical collateral to stand out from the crowd.

As the first order of business, we designed two vertical banners to flank the GRS trade show booth. Since there would be several relevant audiences in attendance between retailers, suppliers, manufacturers and other compliance professionals, we included visual callouts on the banners to help passersby easily find and skim the information that’s relevant to their career.

Our writer and designer also whipped up business cards and two brochures that reflected the streamlined brand voice and visual identity of GRS’s new website. With the amount of “nailed it”s we got from our happy client, we’d say these hit the mark pretty dang well.
