Part economic development company, part membership organization, Indy Chamber is THE name in the Indianapolis business scene. With that dual identity came a complex web of web pages that were hard to navigate and easy for members to lose sight of the benefits available to them. Kicks hopped in to untangle the site and put focus back on the users who matter most.
What we did
Colors
As part of the Chamber’s new site, Kicks built a member portal to provide more value for Indy’s small business owners and others who didn’t find value in the Chamber’s offline benefits. The new portal makes it easy for members to see the full breadth of the benefits available to them, with an emphasis on digital benefits.
The biggest boon for small businesses is the new member-to-member messaging platform. Members can now easily connect with others in their industry or their neighborhood to build grassroots connections, as well as upload exclusive offers to get more eyes on their services or more feet through their doors.
For business owners who are tight on time and ability to travel to the Chamber’s various in-person events, the digital offerings through the new member portal are where the value of Chamber membership really shines.

Dueling menus do the trick
Without easy navigation, content-packed websites like the Chamber’s can be a real labyrinth — without David Bowie and all those singing goblin puppets. The old Chamber site’s top nav bar was too complex to be much help, so we went back to the drawing board for the new site.
We ended up using dueling menus to help users — both members and non-members — get around the massive amount of pages easily.
Splitting the menu allows all users to quickly find the pages that are relevant to them, which is no small feat given the amount of content on the site.

With alignment on brand, audience and U/X, Kicks set up Risers For You for a big leap forward.
Selling a clean, simple product is only as clean and simple as your e-comm site. When we redesigned Risers’ website, we did it with a simple user experience in mind — especially considering the older end of the audience spectrum.
By leveraging WooCommerce, we helped Risers offer a customized shopping experience for their range of products. Users can easily filter to find the right leg shape, finish and size for their furniture.
Form doesn’t have to follow function
Building a website is usually a fine balancing act between functionality and design. The more stuff there is for users to do on a site, the easier it is to end up with a website that’s cluttered and hard to navigate.
Kicks went all out to make sure the Chamber’s new site looked and felt slick while packing it to the gills with functionality. Here’s just some of the tech we brought to the new site:
Ecomm
Bill pay
Events calendar
User-submitted events
Member portal
Membership cost calculator
User-submitted news
Ability for users to add other company members
